One of Florida’s most populous cities, Miami Gardens has traditionally been home to African American and West Indian American families who migrated here in the 1960s. Modern-day Miami Gardens is home to a handful of shopping centres and recreational parks, as well as a multi-purpose stadium that hosts the National Football League.
Things to do in Miami Gardens
In the heart of Miami Gardens is Gardens Promenade, a bustling shopping mall where you’ll find Ross Dress for Less, Burlington and Marshalls. You can grab a bite to eat at Crafty Crab and Snappers Fish & Chicken or head across the road to Kitchen In The Gardens Caribbean Restaurant. Also nearby is Miami Gardens Plaza with its supermarket and soul food eateries.
If you’re a fan of American football, coincide your visit to Miami Gardens with a home game of the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium, which has hosted six Super Bowls since it was constructed in 1987. It also hosts the college-level Orange Bowl and the Miami Open tennis tournament featuring some of the world’s best players. A range of sporting memorabilia is for sale at the Hard Rock Stadium Team Store.
On the eastern edge of Miami Gardens is Rolling Oaks Park, which features a children’s playground, recreational courts and a picnic pavilion. Further north is Miramar Pineland Park, where you can stretch your legs along one of the wetland boardwalks or explore the prairie and woodland trails. In the summer months, kids can cool off at the marine-themed splash pad.
Getting around Miami Gardens
Miami Gardens is around 30 minutes’ drive from Miami and Miami International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Buses travel throughout Miami Gardens, although renting a car will give you greater freedom to explore the city.
