The highlight landmark of the Wellington campus is the New Zealand Dominion Museum Building, an architectural and historic building which originally housed the National Art Gallery of New Zealand. Campus features include dining areas such as the popular Tussock Bar and Café and multiple distinguished research institutes including the Centre for Public Health Research, Sleep/Wake Research Centre and Māori Health Research Centre.
The Massey University Wellington Campus is served by many bus routes including Metlink, Naked Bus and InterCity as well as the Tranzmetro tram system. Walking and cycling are popular forms of transit around campus, and there are plentiful bike parking facilities. There is limited parking for personal vehicles.
Massey University was established on account of the New Zealand Agricultural College Act of 1926. Educational purposes were initiated due to overwhelming agricultural interests stemming from Victoria University College in Wellington and Auckland University College. The location was designated Massey Agricultural College in the late 1920s.
