White-sand beaches and jungle-covered hills frame Maret, a lively village set on the eastern side of Koh Samui. Palm-fringed Lamai Beach is one of the best places to swim and sunbathe, with its crescent of white sand wrapping around a turquoise bay. The water is calm and shallow – perfect for families.
Breezy bars and restaurants overlook the beach and serve Thai classics like red curry and papaya salad. Stay hydrated with fruit smoothies and fresh coconuts, or order colourful cocktails and ice-cold Singha beer.
Ride the cable car to Lamai Viewpoint for sweeping views over the bay. From the side of the forested hill, you’ll get uninterrupted views over the shimmering Gulf of Thailand. Dip your feet into a novelty fish spa, ride the jungle zipline and enjoy a drink at the café. Stay for the spectacular sunsets.
Venture further inland to swim at the base of tumbling waterfalls. Wang Sao Thong Waterfall is one of the closest and features an emerald-green pool surrounded by lush jungle.
