Situated in Southern Thailand, Surat Thani is a gateway to the Gulf Islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Translating to “City of Good People”, many travellers pass through Surat Thani in search of delicious fiery Thai cuisine, a scenic riverfront and old Chinese-style tea shops.
Things to do in Surat Thani
The city is famous for its Surat Thani Night Market, located down by the river side. Enjoy dining on skewered meat starters while waiting for your fresh noodle and rice dishes to be cooked in front of you. For dessert, grab a fresh fruit smoothie from one of the vendors.
Ang Thong National Marine Park is a 20-minute boat ride away, so head back down to the river banks and hop on a long boat taxi. A whole day can be spent at the Marine Park sunbathing, admiring the hill views and enjoying lunch at one of the many eateries before catching the boat back to the mainland come evening.
Surat Thani is a highly religious city with many shrines dotted throughout. Head to Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine to watch the locals in prayer and admire the bold white and gold architecture and decor.
