Overlooking a sparkling bay on Krk Island, Malinska is a charming coastal settlement facing the city of Rijeka. Once a tranquil fishing village, it is now a popular tourist resort surrounded by pebbly beaches and backed by a long promenade lined with traditional eateries.
Things to do in Malinska
For a day at the beach, head to Plaza Malinska, which lies adjacent to the harbour and is backed by several concrete slabs where you can laze in the sun. Alternatively, you can swim in the turquoise waters of Plaza Rupa, a Blue Flag-awarded pebble beach. Umbrellas and sun loungers are available for rent at Plaza Draga, which is a popular destination for jet skiing and banana boating.
Stretching along the coast of Malinska is an eight-kilometre-long promenade that offers magnificent views across the Adriatic Sea. At the northern end of the town is the Rajska Cesta (“Paradise Path”), which traverses a stunning stretch of coastline en route to Njivice. At the end of the walk, you can refresh with a swim at Njivice Beach or grab an ice cream at Slastičarna Bourbon.
Malinska makes an ideal base for exploring the coastal village of Porat, which is watched over by the hilltop Crocifisso Fumak. Wander through the 13th-century monastery of Porat Kloster, visit the Utla Olive Grove or swim at pretty Novina Beach. If you continue driving south, you’ll arrive at the Church of St. Krsevan, a Romanesque-style ruin that dates back to the 12th century.
Getting around Malinska
Malinska is around 15 minutes’ drive from Rijeka International Airport, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe. The city of Rijeka is 40 minutes away. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to Malinska and the town is small enough to explore on foot.
