You can delve into the local history at the Historisches Rathaus Maintal, which hosts changing displays and art exhibitions. It occupies a half-timbered former town hall in the heart of Maintal, alongside a gastropub that serves hearty German fare. On the first floor of the Historisches Rathaus Maintal is a romantic wedding room with picturesque views across the town.
Nearby is the Evangelische Kirche Hochstadt, a beautiful old church decorated with wall and ceiling frescoes. It’s topped by a tower that once served a defensive purpose and boasts a picturesque church garden where you can relax and watch the world go by. Coffee and homemade cakes are served in the Cafair.
On the northern edge of Maintal is the Schützenhäuschen Hochstadt, a historic, half-timbered tower surrounded by a scenic meadow. It offers spectacular views toward Frankfurt’s city skyline and is a great spot to watch the planes coming and going from Frankfurt am Main Airport. The nearby orchard hosts an annual festival that showcases local apples, cider vinegar and sparkling apple wine.
Getting around Maintal
Maintal is around 15 minutes’ drive from Frankfurt and 20 minutes from Frankfurt am Main Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Regular trains connect to the Maintal East and Maintal West railway stations while buses travel through the town. Ferries cross the River Main to Rumpenheim and Mühlheim am Main.
