Vibrant shopping streets attract many visitors to the small city of Neu-Isenburg, which borders Frankfurt am Main to the north and west. It’s a modern multicultural city that was almost entirely rebuilt in the 1950s. Being so close to Frankfurt and Frankfurt Airport makes Neu-Isenburg a popular overnight base for leisure and business travellers to the wider Hesse region. Many service industries have relocated here including Lufthansa and Condor.
While the centre is dominated by commerce and shops, the city’s surroundings are lush and green. It doesn’t feel that it’s part of the big city, even if it’s just a few minutes away by train. The city’s central streets feature many shops, including hundreds that are housed in the modern Neu-Isenburg Zentrum shopping mall. Restaurants around the centre reflect the cosmopolitan atmosphere and offer excellent Italian and Asian fare, along with some traditional German meals of pork and cabbage.
The city is an integral part of the greater Frankfurt transport system, and Neu-Isenburg is on two S-Bahn lines. Frankfurt International Airport is less than five kilometres away while reaching the centre of Frankfurt will take just over ten minutes by train.
The oldest drive-in cinema in Europe, Autokino Gravenbruch, is located in Neu-Isenburg and plays a huge variety of German and English language films, with a focus on the classics.
