Hidden away in the mountains of Khorfakkan, Rifaisa Dam is a unique day trip, said to be built over an abandoned village. On a calm day you can peer into the crystal-clear water and see the tops of the ancient houses.
Built from stone and mud in 1446, Al Badiyah is considered the oldest mosque in the UAE. It's located in a tiny village just outside Khor Fakkan. Wander around the prayer hall and admire the ancient craftsmanship or walk up the hill to a pair of crumbling watchtowers. From here you can enjoy stunning views of the Gulf of Oman and Hajar Mountains.
Getting around Khor Fakkan
Khor Fakkan is easy to navigate on foot, especially if you stick to the waterfront district. Taxis are also a quick and easy way to get around. From Dubai, the drive to Khor Fakkan should take around two hours. Fujairah International is the closest airport, located a 30-minute drive south.
