Overlooking the Baltic Sea, Jelitkowo is a lively coastal town near the Polish city of Gdansk. It was once just a small fishing village, with several historic cottages still dotting the coastline today. Jelitkowo is now packed with windsurfing schools, ice creameries and alfresco restaurants serving locally sourced seafood.

Stretching the length of Jelitkowo is a tree-lined beach, which comes to life in the summer months with tourists. You can refresh with a dip in the Baltic Sea, take advantage of the exercise equipment and volleyball courts or learn to windsurf with one of the local schools. Backing the beach is a breezy promenade dotted with cafes and restaurants, including Bar Hawajski and SeaHouse & Nautilus.
Also nestled behind the beach is Park Jelitkowski, where you’ll find shaded walking trails and benches for watching the world go by. Buskers regularly perform here in the warmer months and there’s a cluster of whitewashed fishermen’s cottages on the park’s edge. Overlooking a paved courtyard is the Parkowa Bistro, which serves hearty Polish meals and cold beer.
Sprawling south-east of Jelitkowo is Park Prezydenta Ronalda Reagana, a spacious green space named after the former United States president. It features a statue depicting Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, who played an important role in the fall of Communism in Poland. In addition to sporting facilities, children’s playgrounds and a skate park, there are also picturesque ponds and a communal barbecue area.
Getting around Żabianka-Wejhera-Jelitkowo-Tysiąclecia
Jelitkowo is around 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Gdansk and 30 minutes from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Both trams and buses connect to Jelitkowo while the seaside area can easily be explored on foot.
