Krynica Morska is a lively resort town perched on the Vistula Spit and fringed by sandy beaches. Relax on the picturesque beaches, enjoy a boat cruise on the lagoon and discover the rich Dutch and German heritage of the surrounding area.
Things to do in Krynica Morska
Sandy beaches and excellent swimming make Krynica Morska one of the top summer destinations in Poland. The spit juts into the Baltic Sea and separates Vistula Lagoon from Gdansk Bay. On the ocean side, Plaza Biala Wejscie is one of the most popular beaches, with colourful sunbeds and umbrellas available to rent. Visit the cafes, bars and restaurants within walking distance of the beach, and don’t miss the fiery sunsets that turn the sky red, yellow and gold.
Scenic cruises are a fun way to enjoy Vistula Lagoon. Some of the longer cruises call at Frombork, a historic town on the opposite side of the lagoon. Admire the magnificent Frombork Cathedral built from red bricks in the 1300s and discover the legacy of famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus at the museum housed in the Old Bishops’ Palace.
In Wielbłądzi Garb, a short trail winds through the lush pine forest and up to a scenic viewpoint. From the top, you’ll enjoy sweeping views over Vistula Lagoon and Gdansk Bay. Krynica Morska Lighthouse towers 27 metres high and is instantly recognisable by its cherry red facade. Climb the spiral staircase to the observation deck for fantastic views over the coastline.
The Vistula Spit was once home to many German and Dutch settlers. The area hasn’t lost sight of its heritage and you’ll see many restaurants serving traditional dishes like Dutch “poffertjes” pancakes and German “bratwurst” sausages.
