Things to do in Huxi Township
Swim, sunbathe and cool off with water sports on Aimen Beach. Roll out your towel on the golden sand or rent a beach tent to escape the sunshine. Take a dip in the calm waters of the Taiwan Strait and get your pulse racing with a banana boat ride.
Hunt for shells and sea glass on Lizhengjiao Beach. Fringed by a strip of honey-coloured sand, the beach is one of the most beautiful in Husi Township. Dip your toes into the crystalline water and look for sea creatures in algae-covered rockpools.
Walk across the rocky sandbar to Chi Yu Island. The sandbar juts into the Taiwan Strait and connects Husi Township with the tiny island. Flip over rocks to find starfish, hermit crabs, razor clams and other sea creatures.
Nanliao Village offers a glimpse of the township’s fascinating past. The village dates back to the Qing Dynasty and features traditional houses built with large fragments of coral. Some of the buildings are beautifully restored and house educational exhibits.
Spot black-faced spoonbills and red-tailed shrikes in the Qingluo Wetland. The park protects a wildlife-rich pocket of mangrove and is a sanctuary for local and migratory birds. Educational panels offer more information on the biodiverse wetland.
Getting around Huxi Township
Husi Township is on Huxi Island in the Penghu archipelago. The township is a 15-minute drive from Magong City and 10 minutes from Penghu Airport. Taxis are a fast and affordable way to get around the island. Ferries connect Huxi Island with Chiayi City and Kaohsiung on mainland Taiwan.
