Built in an elaborate French colonial style in the early-20th century, Hôtel de Ville de Saïgon was renamed as the Ho Chi Minh City Hall in 1975. It serves as the headquarters of the People’s Committee and stands as one of the most iconic landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City.
Wander along the Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street to the Ho Chi Minh City Hall to admire its striking lemon-hued architecture. While the building is not open to the public, its exterior is one of the most photographed in the city with its soaring white pillars, arched doorways and a bell tower rising above.
A grand statue of Ho Chi Minh stands in front of the building, while a picturesque courtyard garden sits in the immediate surrounds. Visit after dark, when the Ho Chi Minh City Hall is beautifully illuminated by lights, along with the nearby colonial landmarks of Notre Dame Cathedral and the Saigon Central Post Office.
Getting there
The Ho Chi Minh City Hall is located in the centre of the city, easily accessed by public buses that stop near the entrance. Tan Son Nhat International Airport is around 30 minutes’ drive away.
