Surrounded by Peak District National Park, Hathersage is a quaint village south-west of Sheffield. Archaeological findings suggest the area has been inhabited since at least the Bronze Age and later became famed for its production of brass buttons.
On the northern edge of Hathersage is St. Michael & All Angel's Church, which originally dates from the 14th century. It houses a beautiful stained-glass window by Charles Kempe and a pipe organ crafted by James Jepson Binns, as well as a sanctus bell dating from 1499. In the churchyard is the grave of Little John, who was second-in-command of Robin Hood’s Merry Men.
Local legend tells of Robin Hood seeking refuge in a nearby cave, which can be accessed along a rocky trail north of Hathersage. From its elevated setting, there are magnificent views across the rolling landscapes of Peak District National Park.
