Located on Gurney Drive in Penang’s bustling capital George Town, the Gurney Plaza is a large, nine-storey shopping complex. It is home to more than 300 stores and lies within one of the city’s most important tourist hubs, making it a popular destination for both locals and foreign visitors.
Gurney Plaza is renowned for its big-name international brands, including Calvin Klein Jeans, Chanel Cosmetics, Omega and Swarovski. It’s anchored by the popular department store, Parkson, and features an excellent selection of Asian fashion, home wares and sporting stores that may be unfamiliar to visiting tourists. It’s also home to numerous local restaurants such as Din Tai Fung and Yoshinoya, as well as global fast food chains including the likes of McDonald’s. There is also a good selection of hair, beauty and nail salons, as well as massage and spa services at Gurney Plaza, and complimentary strollers and wheelchairs are both available on site. It also boasts the second largest multiplex Golden Screen Cinemas in Malaysia and features an 80 seat premiere hall.
Gurney Plaza boasts extensive car parking on its two basement levels, from where the shopping mall can be accessed via lifts and escalators. It is also along numerous public bus routes which connect to George Town’s city centre or can be reached by the free Pulau Tikus shuttle bus.
Gurney Plaza first opened its doors in 2001 and underwent a significant expansion seven years later. The construction of a new wing added 14,000 square metres of retail space and established Gurney Plaza as the premier shopping mall on Penang Island.
