Overlooking the banks of Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, the Grand Palace is an unmissable sight in Thailand. The royal complex was home to the Kings of Siam for 150 years and consists of elaborately decorated throne halls, exquisite government offices and one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Thailand.
Take a guided tour to discover the history of the Grand Palace and explore the intricacies of Thailand's architectural traditions while soaking up views of the elegant pagodas, shrines and sculptures. Circle the golden stupas of the Dusit Maha Prasat, the most beautiful building within the grounds, and peer inside to see the mother-of-pearl throne.
Don’t miss the Temple of the Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra Kaew, where you can light a candle alongside the monks and listen to the chiming prayer bells. The temple contains three precious jade Buddha statues and is guarded against all evil spirits by six giant demon statues.
Getting there
Regular buses, trains, taxis and ferries service the Grand Palace. For a scenic journey, take the BTS subway on the Silom Line to Saphan Taksin Station and board the Chao Phraya Express boat, which drops you directly outside the palace.
