Peaceful and untouched, Favignana is the largest of the Egadi Islands off Sicily’s west coast. From its cove-studded coastline and crystal-clear waters to its charming historic churches and humble harbourside, Favignana is an island for pure relaxation.
A highlight of any trip to Favignana is a boat trip around the island. Stop for a dip in the sparkling cobalt seas at Cala Rossa or go snorkelling off the rocky inlets of Cala Rotonda. Want to stay dry? Hike to the Norman fort perched on Mt. Santa Caterina.
Wander through the pedestrianised town centre and experience the cheerful, local atmosphere of restaurant-rimmed Piazza Matrice. Enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner of typical Sicilian seafood at Sotto Sale or a refreshing aperitif at the New Albatros reggae wine bar.
For a touch of history, visit the Florio Tonnara, the island’s old tuna fishery, now housing an interactive museum devoted to sharing their story. Don’t miss seeing the Palazzo Florio, a grand limestone mansion that offers a stark contrast to the typical whitewashed Mediterranean houses.
Getting there
Just 15 kilometres off the coast, Favignana is easily reached by ferry from Trapani and Marsala. Once on the island, one of the most popular ways to explore is by bike, while local buses and taxis are also available.
