Castleton is a gateway to Peak District National Park, where you can discover showstopping scenery. The village is nestled in the Hope Valley and set at the foot of Mam Tor, a 500-metre-high hill steeped in mystery and folklore.

You’ll also see veins of a semiprecious gemstone called Blue John decorating the walls. Tours of Speedwell Mine take you deep into an old lead mining pit, with your ticket including a boat ride along the flooded underground tunnel.

Castleton is in Derbyshire, a 30-minute drive from Sheffield and one hour from Manchester. Trains run between Manchester and Hope in one hour. From here, it’s a five-minute drive from Castleton.
