Originally known as “Cambridge Town”, Camberley lies near the banks of the Blackwater River in London’s south-west. The area was once plagued by highwaymen such as the notorious William Davies and remained unsettled for many years due to its sandy topsoil. In 1812, the Royal Military Academy was established nearby, followed by the Cambridge Hotel, with the town growing in its surroundings.
