Spreading alongside the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, the Botanic Park covers 34 hectares within Park 11 of the Northeast Parklands group of connecting public green spaces near Adelaide’s city centre. The park is also known by its Kaurna name of “Tainmundilla”.
Since 1890, Speaker’s Corner within Botanic Park has been the unofficial platform for free speech and public debate in Adelaide, similar to Hyde Park in London. It’s home to a popular grove of ancient Moreton Bay Fig Trees, which are perfect for lounging beneath. An avenue of leafy trees marks the border of the park and the Botanic Garden.
Families can enjoy picnicking and strolling the park’s paths or sign up for the guided tours that are held every Monday afternoon. Botanic Park also hosts major festivals and events, such WOMADelaide and the Moonlight Cinema series.
Getting there
Botanic Park is about a 15-minute walk from the city centre, with buses and trams stopping along Hackney and Frome roads. You can drive there in five minutes from downtown and parking is available on Plane Tree Drive or in the Goodman Building and State Herbarium carparks.
