Home to one of the most iconic theme parks in the world, Alton is a small village with a lot to offer. Most people make a beeline for Alton Towers, a sprawling amusement park with 10 themed areas to discover. Blast off on the stomach flipping Galactica flying rollercoaster and strap into the exhilarating Wicker Man wooden coaster, if you dare. There’s plenty to keep little ones entertained, including rides and attractions inspired by CBeebies, Peter Rabbit and the Teletubbies.
In addition to thrills and spills at Alton Towers, the village is an excellent base for exploring the East Hampshire countryside. Jane Austen's House Museum in the neighbouring village of Chawton celebrates the legacy of the beloved English author. It occupies a quaint 17th-century house where she once lived. Chawton House, a heritage-listed Elizabethan manor is another iconic property near Alton. Tour the lavishly furnished rooms and stroll around the beautifully manicured gardens.
