Things to do in York
The Historical Society Museum offers a window into Pennsylvania's colonial past. Inside you'll find a collection of fine art, gleaming antiques and Civil War artefacts. Nearby is Bonham House, a Victorian terrace home that showcases works from local artist, Horace Bonham.
You can spend a day exploring the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail, which winds past Pennsylvania's most prominent vineyards, including Moon Dancer Winery. It's perched on the Susquehanna River and is surrounded by rolling grapevines, with a tasting room and restaurant housed in an elegant French country chateau. If you prefer beer, you can always tour craft breweries on the Susquehanna Ale Trail.
York's Central Market House has been hosting a colourful farmers market since 1888. Inside the historic red-brick building you'll find stalls selling everything from grass-fed beef and organic vegetables to artisan coffee and baked goods.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors in York County, with almost 50 kilometres of trails to explore along the York County Heritage Rail Trail. Codorus State Park is a favourite with locals and features lakeside beaches, shady picnic spots and a disc golf course.
Getting around York
Downtown York is easy to get around on foot, while the city is also well-connected by local buses and taxis. Rental cars let you explore York County at your own pace. Philadelphia International is the closest major airport, around 2.5 hours from York.
