Yopal is an authentic city where you can experience Colombia through a local lens. Spacious parks and plazas dot the city and provide a place for locals to socialise, listen to live music and enjoy traditional street food. Venture into the countryside to explore natural swimming pools and cascading waterfalls.
Things to do in El Yopal
Yopal is an excellent base for day trips around the Casanare countryside. Swim in picturesque natural pools fed by local rivers and hike to scenic waterfalls like Cascada la Calaboza. Cool off in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall and enjoy a picnic on the rocks.
Enjoy the lively atmosphere in Parque Principal Yopal, the city’s main square. Tree-shaded benches dot the park and offer respite from the sun. Food stalls pop up in the evenings and serve Colombian treats like “cholao” shaved ice topped with chopped fruit and drizzled with condensed milk. The park is also a great place to enjoy traditional Colombian music performed by local buskers.
Scenic hiking trails wind through Temático Historias De Piedra Park and take you past larger-than-life stone sculptures. Cliffs and boulders throughout the park have been transformed into living works of art covered with emerald-green moss, climbing vines and tree roots. Snap photos of human faces, animals, mythical creatures and other creations.
Make a splash at Parque Acuatico Nacua Yopal, a family-friendly water park with slides, pools and sunbathing areas. Float along the lazy river and speed down colourful racing slides. Bring a picnic or fill up on hamburgers, hotdogs and empanadas.
