Insect enthusiasts shouldn’t miss a visit to the Butterfly Museum Foundation, which was established by local collector György Juhász. It houses hundreds of different butterfly species displayed according to their regional distribution and boasts exhibits related to the fauna of the Carpathian Basin. The museum is a short stroll from the Újpest Water Tower, which was used to store explosives during World War II.
Travelling with kids? Spend a day at Tarzan Park, a two-hectare playground with innovative play equipment for children aged 3 to 14 years. Kids can clamber up the castle-inspired tower, cross the swing bridge and whizz down the twisting slide before relaxing and refuelling on the Tarzan Terrace.
Vintage trucks and firefighting-related artefacts are on display at the Firefighter Open-Air Museum, which was opened on the site of a barracks in 2020. Equipped with a firefighting helmet, you can climb aboard many of the vehicles on display and try your hand at putting out a pretend fire.
