Things to do in Tregastel
Swim, sunbathe and marvel at dramatic granite formations at Tregastel Plage. The beach is set on a sheltered bay, which keeps the water calm and glassy. Many of the rock formations have been given evocative names like “The Artist Palette” and “Stack of Crepes”. Walk up to the main road to find ice cream parlours and casual bistros.
Walk around the historic village and dine al fresco at cafes and creperies, then admire the stone buildings and centuries-old churches that recall the village’s ancient past. Learn about the power of the ocean at the Windmill of the Grand Traouiero. The 18th-century mill overlooks the port and uses tidal power to grind grain.
Beach-hop along the Côte de Granit Rose, a beautiful stretch of coast fringed by soaring granite cliffs. The beaches are studded with enormous boulders with the same rosy hues as the cliffs, which look spectacular against the sapphire-blue ocean. At low tide, you can peer into crystalline tide pools.
Venture into the hinterland to discover the rolling hills and woodlands of the Traouiero Valley. Follow the main hiking trail through the valley to immerse yourself in a wonderland of moss-covered boulders and towering beech, oak and chestnut trees.
