Nestled at the base of Hohe Munde, Telfs is a lively market town west of Innsbruck. It has a rich history as a centre for textile manufacturing and attracts holidaymakers, with scenic hiking trails, family-friendly recreational facilities and a colourful carnival among its highlights.
Things to do in Telfs
For insight into the local history, visit the Kulturzentrum Noaflhaus, which explores the origins of Telfs and exhibits archaeological findings dating back to the Bronze Age. The first floor of the museum is dedicated to the town’s carnival celebrations, the Telfer Schleicherlaufen, which is held every five years. In addition to traditional costumes and accessories, it features engaging multimedia displays.
If you’re visiting in the warmer months, you can follow one of the hiking trails that lead through the mountainous surroundings or enjoy a round on Telfs’ 18-hole miniature golf course. At the Telfer Bad, you’ll find swimming pools and saunas where you can rejuvenate at the end of the day. The Tefls Sports Centre boasts squash courts, a climbing wall and a ten-pin bowling alley.
A short drive east of Telfs is the Mösern Peace Bell, which was designed by the Tyrolean architect Hubert Prachensky and cast by Innsbruck’s Grassmayr bell foundry. It is the largest free-standing bell in the Alps and rings out each day at 5 pm as a gesture of cross-border cooperation. The Mösern Peace Bell can be accessed along a hiking trail that leads from the Seewald-Alm.
