Golden sand, clean water and a beautiful setting at the foot of Seorak Mountain make Sokcho Beach a sunseeker’s paradise. Popular with locals and tourists, the beach offers excellent swimming and sunbathing coupled with fantastic views over the Sea of Japan. On a clear day, you can see offshore islands.
Showers and washrooms make Sokcho Beach a family-friendly stretch of sand. The promenades and parking lots around Sokcho Beach are dotted with stalls selling Korean street food. Try grilled squid, fried shrimp and boiled crab. You’ll also find a good selection of coffee shops and seafood restaurants within strolling distance of the beach. Buskers and street entertainers add to the lively atmosphere.
A small park overlooks Sokcho Beach and is laced with trails shaded by pine trees. The scenic Oeongchi Bada Hyangiro Trail stretches along the coast and treats you to beautiful views over the beach and surrounding resorts.
Getting there
Sokcho Beach is located in Gangwon-do province, a two-hour drive from Seoul and three hours by bus. The beach is a 10-minute walk from Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. KTX Kyung Kang Line Trains run between Seoul and the Sokcho city centre in 1.5 hours. Incheon International Airport is a 2.5-hour drive away.
