About Skadovsk

Overlooking Dazharylhach Bay on the Black Sea coast, Skadovsk is a popular holiday resort town in southern Ukraine. It was originally established as a port for the exportation of wheat, wool and furs and is named after its founder, the politician, biochemist and hydrobiologist Sergey Skadovsky.

Things to do in Skadovsk

Begin your visit at the Skadovsky District Local History Museum, which details the people and events that have shaped the region. Household artefacts, vintage weapons and documents of significance are all on display, as well as exhibits focused on the Black Sea coast’s native flora and fauna.

A highlight of visiting Skadovsk is its beaches, which overlook the Black Sea towards its biggest island, Dzharylhach. You can rent a boat to explore the island’s sandy beaches, salt lakes and mineral springs, and try to spot local wildlife such as deer, wild mouflon sheep and hunting crabs.

Travelling with kids? Spend a day at the Waterpark Akvatoryya, which features water slides for all ages and several swimming pools fringed by sun loungers. Also nearby is the Delʹfinariy where you can see dolphins in action during one of the live shows. Alternatively, you can opt for a private session to interact with the dolphins in the aquarium’s shallow pool.

Getting around Skadovsk

Skadovsk is just over 1.5 hours’ drive from Kherson International Airport, which has regular flights to Kyiv and destinations across Europe. Buses travel between Kherson and Skadovsk while the town centre can be explored on foot. Boats can be rented for exploring the Black Sea coast or accessing Dzharylhach Island.
