Perched off the coast of Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas Island lures sunseekers with its swaying palms, sugar-white sand and aquamarine waters. It's a unique slice of the UAE, with most of the island occupied by a wildlife park.
Things to do in Sir Bani Yas
Once a private retreat for Sheikh Zayed, today Sir Bani Yas Island is dominated by the Arabian Wildlife Park. It's home to over 10,000 free roaming animals, including sand gazelles, Barbary sheep, ostriches, giraffes and the occasional cheetah. You can also spot rare Indian blackbuck antelopes and endangered Arabian oryx.
From snorkelling in the Arabian Gulf to horse riding along the beach, Sir Bani Yas Island is brimming with outdoor activities. You can rent a stand-up paddleboard from the water sports centre, sea kayak through mangrove forests or scuba dive at the shipwreck just offshore.
The island is dotted with a handful of archaeological sites, including the ruins of an ancient Christian monastery. Founded in the late-6th century AD, the working site offers a fascinating glimpse at the excavation process.
The island is home to three luxury resorts that treat guests to private beaches, sparkling swimming pools and on-site spas. Overlooking the shimmering waters of the Arabian Gulf, a day at Anantara Spa will leave you feeling pampered.
