About Shuili Township

Located at the junction of the Shuili and Zhuoshui rivers, Shuili is a largely rural township in Nantou County. It comprises 19 villages, including the former logging settlement of Checheng, as well as several dams that play an important role in hydroelectricity generation. Home to a cultural park dedicated to ceramics, Shuili Township lies on the southern edge of Sun Moon Lake.

For insight into Shuili Township’s craftsmanship, visit the Shuili Snake Kiln Ceramics Cultural Park, which centres around a snake-shaped kiln built in 1927. Founded by ceramic artisan Jiang Song Lin, it was long used to produce a range of ceramics, such as jars. Browse the objects on display in the museum and see what’s happening in the ceramic workshop before relaxing with a drink at the on-site cafe.

Want to stretch your legs? Enjoy a stroll through the Xitou Nature Education Area, a former experimental bamboo forest that’s been transformed into a nature reserve. It is nestled in a valley framed by mountains and features a 180-metre-long skywalk that traverses its forest canopy.
