Things to do in Mingjian Township
A cool climate and fertile soil make the Jiji Mountains a prime tea-growing territory. The region is famous for Jhushan Oolong Tea, which you can enjoy at most cafes and tea houses in Mingjian Township. After your first sips, you’ll notice the unique floral and fruity notes.
Mingjian is the largest village in the township and an ideal base to explore the region. After a day of sightseeing, head to the night market to enjoy local dishes like vermicelli noodles topped with roasted pork knuckle and flame-grilled beef skewers. Cross the Zhuo Shui River to visit Zhushan Zinan Temple. The temple is dedicated to the Chinese God of Prosperity and is decorated with strings of colourful paper lanterns.
Houtanjing Sky Bridge stretches 200 metres across a forested valley. The views are dizzying, with the highest parts of the bridge 150 metres above the valley floor. On clear days, you can spot the Xiluo Bridge in Yunlin.
Qingshuiyan Buddhist Monastery was founded in the 1700s and features beautiful swallowtail roofs decorated with colourful statues. As you approach the monastery, you’ll pass by stalls selling locally grown guavas and other fruits. The monastery is set within the Qingshuiyan Forest Recreation Area, which protects lush pine and bamboo forests. Trails wind through the park and immerse you in the mountainous landscapes.
Getting around Mingjian Township
Cars are the best way to get around Mingjian Township, while it’s also serviced by local buses and trains. Mingjian Township is located in Nantou County, a 40-minute drive from Taichung City and 2.5 hours from Taipei City.
