Shenton Park lies in the heart of the suburb, radiating around the waters of Lake Jualbup. It’s a popular birdwatching destination, with kookaburras, red-tailed black cockatoos and pelicans seen here, together with long-neck turtles that inhabit the lake.
Spend an afternoon exploring the walking trails and war memorials of Kings Park, which overlook the Swan River adjacent to Perth’s city center. It’s one of the largest inner-city parks in the world, with the Federation Walkway offering an elevated view of the river and skyscrapers.
Don’t miss a visit to the Botanic Gardens within Kings Park, which boast an outstanding collection of Western Australian native plant species. The display of rare wildflowers is particularly impressive and there’s an on-site cafe serving up modern Australian cuisine.
Shenton Park is a great base for attending concerts or sporting fixtures at the nearby HBF Stadium. This state-of-the-art complex includes five pools, two arenas and basketball courts, as well as an on-site cafe and sporting museum.
Getting around Shenton Park
Shenton Park train station is the main transport hub in the suburb, with rail connections to Perth’s city center and south to Fremantle. Public buses also travel throughout Shenton Park and it’s a pleasant area to explore by bicycle.
