Things to do in Ribamontán al Mar
The laid-back town of Somo is an excellent base for your trip to Ribamontan al Mar. In the town centre, you’ll find a mix of cafes, bakeries, burger bars and gelato shops. The town centre is a short stroll from Playa De Somo, a long stretch of sand that’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing and surfing. Board rentals are available from local surf schools, or you can sign up for lessons.
Golden sand and grass-covered dunes make Playa de Loredo one of the best beaches in Cantabria. Playa del Puntal is perched on the tip of a two-kilometre-long sandy peninsula. Passenger ferries depart from the marina in Santander and whisk you out to the idyllic sandy beach. In summer, you can sip on ice-cold refreshments from one of the pop-up beach bars.
Hiking trails wind along the coast and showcase the postcard-perfect scenery. The trail to Pozas de Langre ends at a series of natural rock pools set at the foot of coastal cliffs. From here, follow the trail to Playa de Langre, a turquoise bay surrounded by soaring cliffs. Rolling waves make Playa de Langre one of Cantabria’s top surf beaches.

Ribamontan al Mar is a 30-minute drive from Santander and one hour from Bilbao. Towns like Somo and Galizano are compact and easy to get around on foot. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Ribamontan al Mar and Cantabria at your own pace. Seve Ballesteros-Santander Airport is a 25-minute drive away.
