Qingdao is a splendid blend of modern architecture and oceanfront scenery located across from the Shandong Peninsula. The city is a major seaport, boasting the longest sea bridge in the world, and is known for its Tsingtao Brewery, the second-largest brewery in China.
Things to do in Qingdao
Visit the Qingdao Beer Museum for a dose of history and to sample quality beer. Stroll through the old Qingdao beer factory, learn about the history of the building, browse the production area and finish the tour in the cafe where you can sip on a beer of your choice.
Spend a day out in nature at the Laoshan Scenic Area. Take the cable car halfway up the mountain and then climb the remaining distance to Jufeng peak. You can visit a Buddhist or Taoist temple and stop in for a souvenir at the small shop at the summit.
Check out Zhongshan Park, located in central Qingdao and accessed through a unique German wine cellar. Ride the chairlift up to the TV tower to enjoy views of Taiping Hill. You can also check out the Zhanshan Temple, Qingdao’s largest Buddhist temple.
Before you leave Qingdao, snap a photograph of the iconic monument at May Fourth Square. Stroll down the boardwalk to peruse trinkets for sale, enjoy the scene of the monument lit up at night and check out the Olympic sailing area.
Getting around Qingdao
Qingdao Railway Station connects to nearby major metropolises. Ferry services run routes between Incheon, South Korea and Shimonoseki in Japan. The easiest way to get around is by taxi or bus.
