Located just west of historic Cartagena, Puerto de Mazarron is a seaside resort with a long industrial history of fish salting. Today, it attracts visitors thanks to its sun-drenched Mediterranean beaches, picturesque golf courses and freshly caught seafood.
Spend your days relaxing on one of Puerto de Mazarron’s beautiful beaches, such as Playa del Gachero or Playa del Rihuete. In addition to swimming, they provide a setting for windsurfing, jet skiing and sailing. Between the two rises the Mount of Santa Catalina, which is topped by the whitewashed Sagrado Corazón de Jesús sculpture.
Learn about Puerto de Mazarron’s rich history at the Roman Fish Salting Factory, which preserves a series of ancient structures that were once used to salt fish and manufacture garum (fermented fish sauce) in the 4th century AD.
