Prerow is a colourful seaside resort perched on the Darss Peninsula. Bask on sandy beaches, swim in the Baltic Sea and explore one of the most beautiful coastal forests in Europe. The town centre will charm you with its brightly-painted buildings and thatch-roof cottages.
Things to do in Prerow
Sugar-white sand and crystalline water make North Beach one of the best in Germany. It stretches for one kilometre and enjoys Blue Flag status for its ultra-clean water. Relax on the sand and stroll along the historic promenade lined with thatch-roof shops, cafes and ice cream parlours. The clothing-optional section is great for getting rid of your tan lines.
Prerow Pier stretches 390 metres into the Baltic Sea and gives the resort a postcard-perfect aesthetic. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the pier and stop to watch fishermen reeling in pike, perch and sea trout. Windsurfing, kayaking and sailing are just some of the adrenaline-fuelled water sports offered in Prerow.
More than 50 kilometres of marked trails wind through the ancient Darss Forest. Lush ferns, moss-covered pines and gnarled beech trees give the forest a fairy-tale feel. It’s easy to see how the forest has captured the imaginations of artists such as Paul Müller-Kaempff and Louis Douzette over the centuries. Look out for red deer, wild boar and woodpeckers as you explore the trails.
Steam paddleboats depart from the harbour and take you into the lagoons that dot the Baltic coast. They’re a great chance to immerse yourself in the beautiful coastal landscapes and get up close with nesting birds.
