When you’ve had your fix of sun and sand, venture inland and visit gems like Steinbecker Hofladen. This charming local farm is home to cows, chickens, pigs and other animals. The on-site café will tempt you with its traditional German sausages and homemade cakes. Wash down your meal with a glass of milk sourced from the farm’s resident cows.
Just west of town is Schloss Bothmer, a Baroque castle that’s been reimagined as a history museum. Inside you can discover exhibits on the German architect, who designed the castle and the diplomat who once lived in it. Allow plenty of time to stroll around the flower-filled gardens.
Lübeck-Travemünder Golf Club is one of the oldest courses in Germany and enjoys a picturesque seaside setting. In addition to a 27-hole parkland-style course, you can practise your swing on one of the most scenic driving ranges in the country.
Getting around Ostseebad Boltenhagen
Boltenhagen is compact and easy to get around on foot. The resort is a one-hour drive from Lübeck and 1.5 hours from Hamburg. Hamburg Airport is a two-hour drive away.
