Visit Lake Danao Natural Park and discover dramatic volcanic landscapes. Towering volcanic mountains frame the picturesque crater lake, which you can access via a 30-minute hike through banana plantations. Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch by the lake before heading back to the trailhead.
Kalamay, a sticky snack made with brown sugar, coconut milk and glutinous rice, is a local delicacy in Polangui. You’ll see it sold at street stalls and shops across the region. Other local favourites include “ibos” rice cakes cooked in coconut milk and steamed in palm leaves and “sinapot” deep-fried bananas.
Cool off at the Biga-Biga Cold Spring, a crystalline natural pool surrounded by lush rainforest. Roll out your towel on the rocks and warm up in the sunshine. Nearby is Batag Falls, a series of waterfalls that cascade down a rockface and into a translucent pool.
Challenge yourself on the Mount Masaraga summit trail. You’ll hike through dense rainforest and windswept grasslands before reaching the summit. Start early to catch the spectacular sunrise. The views of the perfectly-shaped Mayon Volcano are breathtaking.
Getting around Polangui
Shared minibuses called “jeepneys” are a fast and affordable way to get around Polangui. The region is a 1.5-hour drive from Legazpi City and Naga City. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Polangui at your own pace. Legazpi Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away.
