Perched 1,300 metres above sea level, Table Land is one of Asia's highest volcanic plateaus. It has served as a backdrop for a host of Indian films. For stunning views, head up to Sydney Point, which commands sweeping views over Table Land and Dhom Dam.
Thanks to its scenic views, gentle winds and high elevation, Panchgani is one of India's top paragliding destinations. Local operators are happy to arrange everything from tandem "joy rides" to advanced multi-day courses. The bird's-eye views over the volcanic landscape are incredible.
Surrounded by lush forests, Sinhagad Fort is one of Panchgani's most popular trekking destinations. A well-worn trail winds up to the stronghold, while those looking for a more challenging trek can hit the Pratapgad Fort trail, which rewards hikers with crumbling ramparts and sweeping views over the Table Land plateaus.
Venture out of town to discover the Rajpuri Caves. They're surrounded by sacred pools and are dedicated to Kartikeya, the Hindu god of war. The entrances are flanked by stone plates engraved with ancient carvings.
Getting around Panchgani
Panchgani is easy to get around on foot, while taxis and auto rickshaws are also available. Pune Airport is a 2.5-hour drive from Panchgani.
