Things to do in Ørsta
The lively village of Orsta is an excellent base for exploring Western Norway. Set at the end of a picturesque inlet, the village offers a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and guesthouses. Enjoy delicious cuisine from Western Norway, including sharp “kraftkar” blue cheese and “skillingsboller” cinnamon rolls. If you’re game, try “smalahove” roast sheep’s head, a local specialty.
In winter, the Orsta Ski Centre attracts snow sports enthusiasts from across Norway. Explore 17 kilometres of groomed slopes, ranging from family-friendly tracks to advanced runs. During spring and summer, the resort transforms into a sunny outdoor playground for mountain bikers.
Magnificent Hjørundfjord stretches for 35 kilometres and is one of the most beautiful fjords in Norway. The cobalt-blue inlet is surrounded by sheer cliffs and the rocky peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps. Scenic boat cruises take you out onto the fjord, where you’ll sail past green meadows, remote mountain farms and idyllic waterside villages.
One of the tallest peaks in the Sunmore Alps, Slogen towers 1,564 metres above sea level. The trail to the summit rewards hikers with spectacular views over the mountains and fjords. Allow at least nine hours to complete the challenging full-day hike.

Getting around Ørsta
Orsta is located in Western Norway, a 1.5-hour drive from Alesund. The village of Orsta is compact and easy to get around on foot. Ørsta–Volda Airport is a 10-minute drive from the village centre while Alesund Airport is a two-hour drive north.
