Located on the banks of the River Inn, Oberaudorf is a small Bavarian town near Germany’s southern border with Austria. It’s home to beautiful churches and an all-seasons resort where you can ski and toboggan in the winter months or go hiking and zip-lining in the summer.
Things to do in Oberaudorf
In the heart of Oberaudorf is the Catholic Church of Our Lady, which was designed in a Baroque style in the 17th century. Gaze up at its elegant tower before stepping inside to see the gilded altar. A short walk away is the Audorfer Museum im Burgtor, which showcases the local history. It lies adjacent to the ruins of Burgruine Auerburg, where you can enjoy magnificent views across the Inn Valley.
On the northern edge of Oberaudorf is the Karmelitenkloster Reisach, which was financed by a local brewer as a Carmelite monastery. It is notable for its elegant facade and ceiling paintings. Adjacent is Schloss Urfahrn, an 18th-century castle complex that includes a beautiful chapel, two outbuildings and a Baroque-style garden.
If you’re visiting in the winter months, hit the downhill slopes of Adventure Mountain Hocheck, which can be accessed by chairlift from Oberaudorf. Once the snow melts, you can explore the mountain on one of its nature trails before flying back down along the 1,100-metre-long sled. Kids will love the fairytale-inspired trail that brings to life the story of the Brünnstein dwarf.
