Thatch-roof huts dot the golden sand of Nuweiba, where it’s not unusual to see camels wandering along the beach and goats trotting through the town centre. The lively coastal town is set on the Gulf of Aqaba and is a beach lover’s paradise. Shore access dive sites make Nuweiba one of the top scuba destinations on the Sinai Peninsula. Discover corals-strewn reefs and colourful sea gardens, which are just steps from the shore.
Things to do in Nuweiba
Nuweiba Beach is the best in the area and features an arc of golden sand. It’s a great place to swim, sunbathe and build sandcastles. A narrow stretch of honey-coloured sand fringes nearby Tarabin Beach. Sunbathe on the beach, swim in the crystalline Red Sea and enjoy fantastic snorkelling just offshore.
Strap on scuba gear and explore the Sinker, an enormous mooring buoy that sunk in the 1990s. The marker now supports a thriving artificial reef where you can admire colourful corals and curious lionfish. If you’re lucky, you might see spotted eagle rays and sea turtles cruising past.
Massive boulders dot the reef at Ras Mumlach, another world-class dive site. It’s set in Abu Galum National Park and is home to huge barracuda. Adventurous divers love to explore the deep chasms and narrow valleys at Ras Shaitan. The dive site is famous for its unique topography and rainbow-coloured anemones.
Book a Jeep safari and explore the rugged coastal landscapes around Nuweiba. Many tours include stays at remote Bedouin desert camps, where you can sleep under the stars in thatch-roof huts. Enjoy bountiful plates of fresh seafood and ice-cold beer just steps from the water.
