Established as an independent town in 1897, Montreal-Ouest is a leafy suburb on the Island of Montreal. It was once home to a tavern and stagecoach stop known as the “Halfway House” due to its location between the port of Montreal and the wharf at Lachine.

Montreal-Ouest is dotted with leafy parks where you can stroll and relax, including Parc Edgar-Davies with its children’s playground and curling club. Alongside the park is the Musee de l’Histoire de Montreal-Ouest, which tells the story of the people and events that have shaped the suburb. For a longer walk, follow the trail that hugs the 1820s-built Canal Lachine.
Sprawling along the edge of Montreal-Ouest is Meadowbrook Golf Club, which features an 18-hole course, a driving range and a well-stocked pro shop. You can navigate its tree-lined fairways and greens with one of the resident pros or take advantage of the practice greens. Non-golfing family members can enjoy a stroll along the Joe Raie Nature Trail or relax at the on-site restaurant.
Montreal-Ouest makes a good base for discovering the sights of Montreal, including Jean-Talon Market and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Wander through the atmospheric streets of Old Montreal and explore the Montreal Botanic Garden before soaking up the city views from Parc du Mont-Royal. Don’t miss the magnificent Notre-Dame Basilica, which is designed in a Gothic Revival style.
Getting around Montreal-Ouest
Montreal-Ouest is around 30 minutes’ drive from Downtown Montreal and the Gare Centrale, which is the arrival point for intercity trains. Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is 20 minutes away and has flights to destinations across the globe. Commuter trains connect to the Montreal-Ouest station and buses travel throughout the suburb.
