Bustling Meishan is a great launchpad for exploring the township. The main road is dotted with tea houses, coffee shops and noodle houses where you can relax and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. After dark, the Meishan Night Market is a hive of activity. Shop for souvenirs and try local dishes like rice-cake porridge.
Visit the Alishan National Scenic Area and immerse yourself in the wild natural beauty of Meishan Township. Within the park, you’ll find tumbling waterfalls, emerald-green tea plantations and a handful of charming villages. The Alishan Forest Railway winds through the park and takes you through dozens of mountain tunnels.
The famous Taiping 36 Bends scenic road winds up into the mountains and is an exhilarating experience. There are 36 hairpin turns to navigate, all with spectacular views over the surrounding mountains and forests. The views from the final bend stretch all the way to the coastal plain and the Taiwan Strait.
The impressive Taiping Suspension Bridge spans across a forested valley. At 1,000 metres above sea level, it’s one of the highest suspension bridges in the country. Cross the bridge on foot to admire the breathtaking views and marvel at the enormous cables that anchor it to the hillsides.
Getting around Meishan Township
Local buses are a fast and affordable way to get around Meishan Township, while rental cars offer the freedom to explore the region at your own pace. Meishan town is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Meishan Township is a one-hour drive from Taichung City and Tainan City.
