Forming part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Mansfield is a thriving suburban city in north-east Texas. It was originally home to the Comanche people before a grist mill was erected here in 1856. The city is named after the mill’s two owners, Ralph Sandiford Mann and Julian Feild.
Things to do in Mansfield
Artefacts and exhibits documenting the area’s history are exhibited at the Mansfield Historical Museum & Heritage Center, which occupies the lovingly restored William Burney McKnight Building. Get up close to objects belonging to early settlers, such as a coffee grinder and an antique cash register, or delve into your family history with the help of the genealogical archive.
On the northern edge of the city centre is Katherine Rose Memorial Park, a leafy green space with an illuminated walking trail, a children’s playground and a fragrant rose garden. You can take advantage of the sporting courts to play basketball and volleyball or relax with a picnic in one of the pavilions. There is also a small pond for catch-and-release fishing.
If you’re visiting in the hot summer months, cool off at the Hawaiian Falls Mansfield, a four-hectare water park filled with themed pools, water slides and kids’ play areas. You can brave the “Cliffhanger”, ride the “Kona Kooler" lazy river or enjoy a splash around in “Keiki Kove". Once you’ve built up an appetite, you can refuel on pizzas, burgers and hot dogs from one of the concessions.
