Carved in two by the Klang River, the Royal Town of Klang served as the former capital of Selangor on the edge of a bustling port. It’s home to an excellent museum and imposing dagger monument that celebrate its sultanate history, together with one of Malaysia’s oldest Hindu temples.
Things to do in Klang
Discover the history of the Selangor Sultanate at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery, which occupies a pillared building designed in the early-20th century. Browse personal belongings of the late Sultan from his early years as a crown prince and military career, together with lavish royal gifts and replicas of Selangor’s crown jewels.
Admire the immense Tugu Keris, a towering silver kris (Malay crooked dagger) that was erected to commemorate the Sultan’s Silver Jubilee. Symbolising power, strength and unity, it stands within a picturesque park that lies adjacent to the Klang Royal Gardens and the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
See one of Malaysia’s oldest Vaishnavite temples in Klang’s “Little India” during a visit to Sri Sundararaja Perumal. Admire the beautiful sculptures and carvings of deities that decorate its towering gopuram, then step inside to mingle with devotees as they come to worship or attend colourful weddings at the adjacent hall.

Getting around Klang
Klang is around 30 minutes’ drive from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport and just under one hour by train from Kuala Lumpur. Buses travel throughout Klang but taxis are a more convenient way of getting around.
