Tour the Fremantle Prison and discover the fascinating history of Australia’s only World Heritage-listed building. Wander through the maximum-security cell block, learn about the daring and dangerous escapes and descend below the prison to explore a maze of tunnels built by the convicts.
Wander along the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and stop for fish and chips at Kailis Fish Market Cafe, a popular waterfront eatery dating back to 1928. For a taste of West Australian wine, head to the iconic seaside terrace at Bathers Beach Club or enjoy a tasting paddle at Little Creatures Brewery.
Immerse yourself amongst the state’s seafaring heritage at the Western Australia Maritime Museum, housed in a magnificent sail-shaped building protruding into the harbour. Learn about Indigenous fishing techniques and tour the HMAS submarine.
Venture along Fremantle’s legendary “Cappuccino Strip”, made famous by the street performer turned international artist, John Butler. The boulevard is lined with open-air cafes and leads to the Fremantle Markets, where you can browse over 150 stalls selling Indigenous art, fresh produce and locally-designed fashion.
Getting around Hilton
Perth Airport is a 30-minute taxi ride or two-hour train and bus ride from Hilton. Once in Hilton, you can reach Fremantle city centre in 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bus. Fremantle is a pleasant place to explore on foot, while local buses and trains access the coast.
