Hugging the west coast of Turkey, Gümüldür is a popular beachside resort town to the south of Izmir. It’s renowned for its medieval-themed water park and laid-back stretches of sand while it’s also a stone’s throw from the hiking trails of Değirmendere Şelalesi.
Things to do in Gümüldür Cumhuriyet
Stretching the length of the town is Gümüldür Public Beach, a Blue Flag stretch of sand that is lapped by the shallow waters of the Icarian Sea. There are plenty of waterfront restaurants where you can dine throughout the day, including Yavuz’un Yeri and Gümüldür Şimşek Kamp. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent at Özdere Beach, which is located a short drive east of Gümüldür.
Travelling with kids? Head to the Gümüldür Aquapark Yalı Castle, a medieval-themed aquatic park where you’ll find swimming pools, thrilling water slides and family-friendly entertainment. Experience the circular Cauldron Slide or race your family and friends down the Multi Slide before refuelling at one of the on-site eateries. Parents can kick back on the sun loungers while keeping an eye on their young ones.
Just inland from Gümüldür are the atmospheric ruins of Karacadağ Village, which was occupied until around 1970. It’s now a popular destination for hikers and photographers exploring the natural landscapes of Değirmendere Şelalesi. This scenic nature reserve encompasses a picturesque cascade and swimming hole. Sprawling north are the turquoise waters of the Tahtalı Reservoir.
Getting around Gümüldür Cumhuriyet
Gümüldür is around a one-hour drive from Izmir and 35 minutes from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe and the Middle East. Regular buses connect to Gümüldür and travel throughout the town. Renting a car is the most convenient way of exploring the region.
