About Grassy Park

Located on the Cape Flats to the south-east of Cape Town, Grassy Park is a suburb that brings together residential communities and wildlife reserves. Surrounded by diverse plant and wildlife, it’s a good base for exploring the coastal cliffs at the Cape of Good Hope.

Things to do in Grassy Park

Busy Corner is the heart and soul of Grassy Park, lined with boutique shops and a library. The Stables Craft and Culture Centre is also found here, home to handicrafts created by locals.

Visit the Rondevlei Nature Reserve, which is not only home to more than 200 bird species, but also hippos. Wake up early for the best sightings along the walking trail to the edge of Rondevlei Lake and keep an eye out for glimpses of eland and porcupine.

Adjacent to Rondevlei is Zeekoevlei, an important freshwater lake and reserve that protects endangered Cape Lowland wetland ecosystems. Its name translates as “hippopotamus marsh” and these large mammals are often spotted amidst flocks of pelicans.

Grassy Park makes a good base for exploring the Silvermine Nature Reserve that forms part of Table Mountain National Park. Discover its indigenous fynbos vegetation on one of the many hiking and mountain biking trails or tackle one of the rock climbing routes on Muizenberg Peak.

Getting there

Grassy Flats is around 30 minutes’ drive south of Cape Town and 40 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. Mini buses are the main means of getting to Grassy Park, with the closest train station at Southfield.
