Graceland is a pilgrimage site for Elvis Presley lovers and offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the King's eccentric home. He purchased the colonial-style mansion in 1957 and later revamped the house with 1970s-inspired decor, including an indoor waterfall, jungle-themed living room and yellow vinyl walls.
Other rooms in the museum showcase Elvis Presley's iconic rhinestone-encrusted stage costumes, Priscilla Presley's wedding dress and other memorabilia. You can even peer into the upstairs bathroom, where the King of Rock and Roll passed away from heart failure in 1977.
The tour ends in the Meditation Garden, where you can pay your respects to the graves of Elvis Presley and other members of his family. It's worth splurging on admission to the private car museum, which is housed in the Elvis Presley's Memphis entertainment complex and visitor centre. The star of the show is the pink 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood.
Getting there
Graceland is on Elvis Presley Boulevard, a 10-minute drive from Downtown Memphis, with parking available at the visitor centre. Tour Sun Studios to take advantage of the shuttle that runs from Downtown Memphis to Graceland.
