Gänseliesel, also known as the Little Goose Girl statue, welcomes you to Gottingen. Climb up to kiss her on the cheek, a tradition started by local university students. Old Town Hall is one of the most beautiful buildings in Gottingen. It overlooks the sunny main square, which is lined with medieval buildings repurposed as outdoor cafes and restaurants. The interior is decorated with colourful frescos and elaborate coats of arms.
Walk around the historic University of Gottingen campus and retrace the footsteps of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The university was founded in the 1700s and boasts a stellar line-up of alumni, including the beloved German fairy-tale authors.

Gottingen is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The town is a 1.5-hour drive from Hanover and 3.5 hours from Berlin. Trains run between Gottingen and Berlin in 2.5 hours, and to other towns and cities across Germany. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is a 3.5-hour drive away.
